There are many special terms that refer to things on a ship. Read below to introduce nautical terms into your vocabulary.

Nautical Terms

Bo’sun
A boatswain; their job is to oversee the deck crew, make repairs, handle rigging, anchors, and cables
Galley
The kitchen and dining area
Head
Bathroom/Toilet
Ladder
Stairs
Bulkhead
Walls within the ship
Hatch
Doorway
Bow
Front of the ship
Starboard
Right side of the ship (when facing the bow)
Port
Left side of the ship (when facing the bow)
Stern
Back of the ship
Muster
Meeting place (for safety drills)
